Official handover of ‘The Point’ at Old Trafford cricket ground
Lancashire County Cricket Club today accepted the keys to their striking new £15 million conference and events venue, The Point. They were presented by construction company Morgan Sindall during an official handover ceremony conducted on the famous Old Trafford pitch.
Morgan Sindall’s Area Director Jim Morgan handed over the brand new facility on time and just 14 months since work commenced on the development in April 2009. The venue’s team will now be able to move into the building in time for the grand opening on Sunday 27 June.
To mark the momentous occasion, Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Chairman Michael Cairns OBE, Vice Chairman Geoffrey Shindler OBE and Chief Executive Jim Cumbes were joined on the pitch by Morgan Sindall’s Area Director Jim Morgan, Commercial Director Sharon Chrippes, Senior Contracts Manager Tony McCabe and Project Manager Paul Galloway.
LCCC’s Chairman Michael Cairns says: “It is hard to believe that this splendid construction has been completed in just 14 months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been involved in this achievement, from both Morgan Sindall and our own personnel, who are now gearing up for the official opening later this month and more importantly our first event on the 1st July.”
Once completed, The Point will be one of the largest purpose-built facilities in the country, accommodating a conference or formal dinner for 1,000 people. From the public to the private sector The Point is expected to be a popular venue, be it for weddings or dinner dances, exhibitions, product launches or conferences.
“We are proud to have played a major role in this exciting project at one of the UK’s most prestigious sporting venues,” says Morgan Sindall area director Jim Morgan. “We are delighted to be able to handover the completed facility on time. It has been a pleasure working with Lancashire County Cricket Club during the course of the project and we wish them a successful season on the pitch.”
