Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP gets to The Point at LCCC
Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP took part in the official turf cutting ceremony at Old Trafford’s County Cricket Ground, to mark the start of building work on our new multi-million pound conference and event suite.
The ceremony was preceded by a presentation in the Trafford Suite by our Chief Executive, Jim Cumbes. Andy was joined by several guests as he cut the first sod on the site for the new £12m development.
The name, ‘The Point’, was chosen as it encompassed a number of relevant factors: a subtle cricket term; the design of the venue; and a destination. It has been designed with an eco-friendly outlook, including many green features e.g. rainwater harvesting, low voltage lighting, ground source heat pumps and solar panels. The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has agreed funding of £2.65m for green elements and upgrades to cricketing facilities.
