The Ash’s Trophy stays at Old Trafford!
The sun was shining as the teams assembled on the Old Trafford cricket pitch for Lancashire County Cricket Club’s (LCCC) annual Ash’s Trophy staff match. And this year there was a rumour going around that Morgan Ashurst, the construction company contracted to build the new conference facility ‘The Point, could take the Ash’s away from this famous ground……..
The Ash’s Trophy is named after Peter Ash, Sales Manager at LCCC, and the match is a ‘thank you’ to the staff for all their hard work during the season.
Sales Manager and organiser of the staff match Peter Ash says:
“The staff have worked tremendously hard during the season and the match was a great way to involve everybody and to say thank you for their efforts. With the construction taking place at the same time as the cricket they didn’t know whether to come to work in hard hats and safety boots or shirts and ties!â€
The hard fought competition saw five teams of mixed (very mixed!) abilities and one team of rather nervous builders take to the field in three heats, the top two going on to play in the final.
Thankfully for Lancashire, despite a late rally in the last over by the team from Morgan Ashurst, the Ash’s Trophy has remained at the Old Trafford ground.
After the obligatory team photos and presentations, the bar was opened and a barbecue provided some well-earned grub. This year, all went home with limbs intact, no first aid required!
